What is Duo Voice?+
Duo Voice is a native macOS dictation app. Press Fn twice and speak into any app on your Mac — it transcribes your speech, cleans it up, and types the result right at your cursor.
How does it work?+
Press the Fn key twice to start, speak naturally, and press Fn once to stop. Clean, formatted text appears at your cursor in whatever app you're using — no copy-paste required.
How much faster is it than typing?+
Most people type around 40 words per minute but speak at 130 or more. Drafting by voice is typically 3–5× faster than typing — and because the output is already cleaned up, you spend far less time editing.
Which apps does it work in?+
Any Mac app. Slack, Notion, Gmail, Apple Mail, VS Code, Cursor, Messages, Linear, Figma, and more — Duo Voice types at your cursor wherever you are, with no per-app setup.
Can I dictate in my own language?+
Yes. Duo Voice supports many major languages with automatic detection — including English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, and Italian. You can also set a fixed language in Settings.
Is my data private?+
Yes. Your audio is not retained after it's transcribed, and your dictation history stays on your device — we don't store transcript content on our servers, only aggregate usage counts to enforce plan limits. Turn on Privacy Mode to store nothing at all.
Is it free?+
There's a free plan (1,000 words per month, no card required). Pro ($8/month) unlocks unlimited words, more custom dictionary terms, and custom instructions. Enterprise plans are available for teams.
How is it different from Apple's built-in Dictation?+
Apple Dictation gives you a literal transcript — filler words and all, with you speaking punctuation out loud and no formatting. Duo Voice cleans your speech: it removes filler, fixes grammar and punctuation, adds paragraphs, and can match a tone (like an email).
Can I dictate code and AI prompts?+
Yes. Describe your logic or prompts out loud and let AI tools handle the syntax — great for Cursor, VS Code, and AI chats. Add your stack's terms to a custom dictionary so names and jargon come out right.
Which macOS versions are supported?+
Duo Voice runs on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It's a Mac-only app.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?+
Open Settings → Account in the app (or visit the Manage page) to view your plan and manage billing. You can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of your paid period.
Does it update automatically?+
Yes. Duo Voice keeps itself up to date automatically, and you can also check for updates any time from the menu-bar icon.
